Teen driving 132 mph told officers he was going to a job interview, police say

On June 4, 2025, 19-year-old Azmir Djurkovic was apprehended by Connecticut State Police after being clocked at 132 mph on Interstate 91 South near Cromwell. Driving a relative’s Mercedes E300, Djurkovic wove dangerously through traffic and failed to stop when pursued by a state trooper. The pursuit was terminated due to public safety concerns. Later, Djokovic admitted to police that he was speeding because he was late for a job interview. He turned himself in and faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, eluding police, and first-degree reckless endangerment. He was released on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled for arraignment on June 17.

This incident highlights the dangers of excessive speeding and the importance of adhering to traffic laws, regardless of personal circumstances.

Azmir Djurkovic, 19, was clocked hitting the crazy speed in a family member’s Mercedes E300 on I-91 south in Hartford just before 9 a.m. Wednesday, Connecticut State Police said.

When a trooper gave chase with lights and sirens, the speeding driver “failed to stop and accelerated away while making unsafe lane changes and weaving in and out of traffic,” police said.
