On August 6, 2025, Sergeant Quornelius Radford, a 28-year-old logistics specialist stationed at Fort Stewart in Georgia, opened fire with a personal handgun at his workplace within the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team complex. He wounded five fellow soldiers—three of whom required surgery—with all victims expected to recover in stable condition. Fellow soldiers acted swiftly, subduing and tackling Radford before law enforcement arrived; the base was briefly locked down. Despite his prior DUI arrest earlier in the year—unreported to his chain of command—the motive for the shooting remains unclear. Investigations are ongoing, with the FBI and Army criminal units involved.
