On June 5, 2025, Pfc. Dewayne Arthur Johnson II, a 29-year-old U.S. Army soldier stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, was sentenced to 23 years in prison after pleading guilty to the 2024 killing of his pregnant wife, Mischa Mabeline Kaalohilani Johnson, and their unborn child. The court-martial took place at Wheeler Army Airfield, where Johnson admitted to voluntary manslaughter, obstruction of justice, and providing false official statements.
The tragic incident occurred on July 12, 2024, during a heated argument at their home on Schofield Barracks. Johnson struck his 19-year-old wife, who was six months pregnant, in the head with a machete. He then dismembered her body using a chainsaw and disposed of the remains in a dumpster on the military base, believing they would be incinerated. Mischa’s remains have never been recovered
Following the murder, Johnson delayed reporting his wife missing until July 31, 2024, and participated in search efforts, feigning concern. During his sentencing, Johnson expressed remorse, stating, “My wife didn’t deserve that. She wasn’t trash… I hate myself for what I did, every day.”
As part of the plea agreement, Johnson received the maximum sentence allowed under the law, along with a dishonorable discharge, reduction in rank to E-1, and forfeiture of all pay and allowances
