Nearly 45 years after a man’s body was discovered along Interstate 5 in Oregon, authorities have identified him as 30-year-old Larry Eugene Parks, a Vietnam War veteran who had been missing since 1979. This identification has potentially linked his death to Randy Kraft, a notorious California serial killer known as the “Scorecard Killer.”
Parks’ body was found on July 17, 1980, alongside that of 17-year-old Michael Sean O’Fallon, a recent high school graduate from Colorado. Both victims had been bound and strangled. While O’Fallon was identified shortly after the discovery, Parks remained unidentified until January 2024, when forensic genetic genealogy matched a blood sample to his family.
Randy Kraft, who was convicted in 1989 of 16 murders and is suspected of committing up to 67 based on a cryptic “scorecard” found in his possession, is the sole person of interest in Parks’ death. Oregon State Police spokesperson Kyle Kennedy stated, “There’s some evidence that we’re processing to determine that link.”
Kraft was arrested in 1983 with a deceased Marine in his car and a coded list suggesting numerous victims across multiple states. He is currently on death row at the California Institution for Men in Chino.
The identification of Parks adds to the evidence suggesting Kraft’s involvement in additional murders. Oregon detectives are continuing the investigation to officially connect Kraft to the deaths of Parks and O’Fallon.
