On June 6, 2025, Russia launched a massive overnight missile and drone assault on Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, resulting in the deaths of at least four people and injuries to 20 others. The attack involved over 400 drones and 40 missiles, including ballistic and cruise missiles, marking one of the most intense barrages since the conflict began.
The strikes caused significant damage to Kyiv’s infrastructure, including the metro system and railway lines, and sparked fires in residential areas. Three emergency workers were among the fatalities.
This assault appears to be in retaliation for Ukraine’s recent Operation Spiderweb, which reportedly damaged or destroyed 41 Russian aircraft at multiple air bases.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks and called on international allies to increase pressure on Russia to stop the war.
The situation remains tense, with concerns about further escalations in the conflict.
