Suspect Charged in North Carolina Waterfront Mass Shooting

A man has been arrested and formally charged in connection with a mass shooting that claimed three lives and wounded at least eight others at a popular waterfront bar in Southport, North Carolina. The shooting occurred late on Saturday night, September 27, at the American Fish Company, when a lone gunman opened fire from a boat before fleeing via the Intracoastal Waterway.  Authorities say the suspect, identified as Nigel Max Edge (formerly Sean William DeBevoise), used a short‑barrel AR‑style rifle equipped with a suppressor, folding stock, and scope in the attack. He faces multiple charges: three counts of first‑degree murder, five counts of attempted first‑degree murder, and several counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Local law enforcement described the shooting as “highly premeditated” and said there is currently no indication of additional suspects.  Edge was detained less than an hour after the shooting by U.S. Coast Guard personnel at a boat ramp in neighboring Oak Island and is being held without bond in the Brunswick County Detention Center.
