In 2023, the Lewisville Independent School District in Texas had placed Andrew James McGann—the man now charged with the brutal Devil’s Den double homicide—on administrative leave due to troubling classroom behavior. McGann, who was then a fourth-grade teacher at Donald Elementary, drew concerns from school officials and parents for his poor classroom management, lack of engagement, and questionable remarks, particularly toward female students. While an internal investigation did not uncover criminal conduct, his actions were deemed unprofessional and inappropriate for an educator. He resigned shortly after being placed on leave. Despite this red flag, McGann was later hired in Oklahoma and Arkansas, raising serious concerns about how teacher background checks and warnings are communicated across state lines.
