
The Getty Villa Museum in Los Angeles is set to reopen on June 27, 2025, after a seven-month closure due to the devastating Palisades Fire. The fire, which began on January 7, 2025, destroyed over 6,800 structures and claimed at least 12 lives.
🔥 Fire Threat and Heroic Efforts
As flames approached the Getty Villa, 17 dedicated staff members from facilities, grounds, and security volunteered to stay on-site. They worked tirelessly to secure galleries and extinguish small fires, with support from the Los Angeles Fire Department’s targeted water drops. Their heroic efforts ensured the museum’s survival
🛠️ Restoration and Safety Measures
Post-fire recovery included deep cleaning of indoor and outdoor spaces, flushing water systems, replacing air and water filters, and removing over 1,300 fire-damaged trees. While the Villa has been restored, visitors may notice reduced vegetation and visible burn damage to the outer grounds.
