A federal lawsuit has been filed by the parents of Daniel John Foard, the 32-year-old who died in August 2023 at La Plata County Jail, alleging that jail staff ignored his anguished cries for help for roughly 15 hours as he suffered from a ruptured ulcer. Foard, found alone and in severe distress, vomited blood and repeatedly screamed for medical attention—according to the suit, jail nurses and deputies failed to act, even directing him to “hit the drain” and merely glancing into his cell until he was found dead. The lawsuit names county officials, the jail’s health provider Southern Health Partners, and deputies, accusing them of medical neglect and indifference that led to his gruesome death
