Two 25-year-old elk hunters who had been missing for days in the rugged backcountry of southern Colorado were found dead, officials confirmed on Thursday. Andrew Porter of North Carolina and Ian Stasko of Utah were last heard from on September 11 during a hunting trip in the Rio Grande National Forest near the Rio de los Pinos Trailhead. Despite being experienced outdoorsmen equipped with a satellite device, they went silent just before severe weather hit the area. After nearly a week-long search involving local sheriffs, search-and-rescue teams, dog units, and aerial surveillance, their bodies were discovered roughly two miles from their campsite. According to the Conejos County Coroner, there were no visible signs of trauma or foul play. Autopsies are underway to determine the cause of death, though officials believe the harsh weather and terrain may have contributed.
