Black mayors across the U.S. are calling out a troubling pattern in former President Trump’s approach to cities. Despite real progress in reducing violent crime, Trump continues to single out Black-led cities like Washington, D.C., Chicago, Baltimore, and Los Angeles as “lawless” and in need of federal intervention. City leaders argue this narrative ignores data showing sharp declines in shootings and homicides, and instead fuels political theater rooted in racial bias. Determined to protect their progress, these mayors are doubling down on community-driven safety strategies while preparing legal challenges against what they view as unconstitutional federal overreach.
