President Trump’s administration has rolled out a sweeping initiative dubbed “Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful.” The plan includes deploying federal law enforcement to patrol parks, monuments, and public areas in D.C., removing graffiti and homeless encampments, and coordinating a cleanup and beautification effort across federal lands that constitute about 90% of the capital’s park areas. Trump has tasked the Interior Department with restoring monuments, improving cleanliness, and increasing police presence via federal agencies like the U.S. Park Police and Metro Transit Police. These efforts come as arrests under these agencies have surged, even while official crime data shows a significant decline in violent crime rates.
