A United Express regional jet operating as Commute Air Flight 4339 skidded off the runway at Roanoke‑Blacksburg Regional Airport in Virginia Wednesday night amid stormy conditions, officials confirmed. The Embraer 145, carrying 50 passengers and three crew, overshot the touchdown zone and was brought to a halt in a specialized safety bed — an engineered materials arresting system (EMAS) — installed at the end of the runway. No injuries were reported. Authorities say the upgraded EMAS system performed as designed, preventing further damage or harm.s The incident caused runway closures and flight delays, but operations gradually resumed overnight, and many later flights returned to schedule.  The FAA has launched an investigation into the factors that led to the overrun.
