A 40-year-old man from Galway, New York, named Shane Daley, has been charged with felony cyberstalking for allegedly sending threatening and harassing voicemails to a family member of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson following Thompson’s murder in December.
The Messages & Timeline: Daley reportedly left a series of voicemail messages between December 4 and December 7, 2024—shortly after Thompson was fatally shot in Midtown Manhattan. The messages manifested chilling glee over the killing and included threats toward the CEO’s children.

Legal Proceedings: Daley made his first court appearance in Albany and was released under GPS monitoring, pending further hearings.
Potential Penalties: If found guilty, he could face up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release.
Officials’ Reactions: Acting U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone and the FBI denounced Daley’s actions as cruel, callous, and unacceptable, emphasizing that such harassment of grieving victims will be prosecuted.
