Angel Reese responds to WNBA hate speech investigation: ‘No place’ for racism

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has publicly addressed the WNBA’s investigation into allegations of racist and hateful remarks directed at her during a recent game against the Indiana Fever. Reese emphasized that such behavior has no place in the league or society, stating, “Obviously there’s no place in this league for that.” She expressed gratitude for the support received from the WNBA, her team, and fans, noting, “I’ve had communication from everyone, from so many people across this league.”

The incident occurred during a game where tensions flared between Reese and Fever guard Caitlin Clark, leading to a flagrant foul and technicals. Reports emerged of fans directing racial slurs at Reese, prompting the WNBA to launch an investigation.

Reese highlighted the importance of the league’s “No Space for Hate” initiative, stating, “They understand that this is the priority.” She added, “Every player in this league deserves to be treated with respect and want to come to work and just have fun and have a great environment to work at.”

Caitlin Clark also condemned the alleged racist remarks, asserting, “There’s no place for that in society.” She expressed support for the WNBA’s investigation and emphasized the need for a respectful and inclusive atmosphere for all players and fans.

The WNBA has reiterated its commitment to combating hate and promoting respect across all platforms, both online and in arenas, through its “No Space for Hate” policy. The league’s response to this incident is seen as a critical test of this initiative
