The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service, carried out a “targeted enforcement traffic stop” in South Los Angeles early on October 21, 2025, aimed at apprehending a 44-year-old Mexican national living in the U.S. illegally identified as Carlitos Ricardo Parias. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Parias attempted to evade arrest by ramming a law-enforcement vehicle while agents boxed in his car; fearing for the safety of officers and the public, agents fired what DHS described as “defensive shots,” injuring Parias in the elbow and striking a deputy U.S. marshal in the hand with a ricochet. The marshal is in stable condition. Parias has been charged with assault on a federal officer and faces up to eight years in prison if convicted.
