Federal judge temporarily blocks Trump’s ban on Harvard’s foreign students

On June 6, 2025, U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs issued a temporary restraining order blocking President Trump’s proclamation that barred international students from entering the U.S. to study at Harvard University. The ruling—prompted by Harvard’s amended lawsuit—highlighted that the administration’s action, justified on national security grounds, could cause “immediate and irreparable injury” to both the university and its more than 7,000 international scholars. Following the court intervention, the U.S. State Department directed embassies worldwide to resume processing Harvard-related student visas, while broader visa restrictions, like enhanced background checks, remain
