The parents of 8‑year‑old Cile Steward—still unaccounted for after the catastrophic July 4 flood at Camp Mystic—are speaking out in anguished opposition to the camp’s decision to partially reopen next summer. In a searing open letter, CiCi and Will Steward described the move as “unthinkable” while their daughter’s body remains unrecovered.  They argue that not only were they never consulted about the reopening or memorial plans, but in all formal communications, the camp has neglected even to mention Cile’s continued absence.  The Stewards demand the camp halt all discussions of reopening and memorial construction until Cile is found and full accountability is accepted for the “failures that caused the deaths” of the children who perished. Their plea underscores a deep sense of betrayal: while grief remains raw and recovery efforts continue, the camp appears poised to resume operations as if the catastrophe were already closed.
